Stock markets in India are set to operate for just three days next week due to scheduled market holidays. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will observe two days of closure to mark Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti and Good Friday.

These stock market holidays are pre-announced by the exchanges and are part of the yearly calendar. In April 2025, a total of three market holidays were notified. The first holiday was observed on April 10 for Shri Mahavir Jayanti. Following this, the upcoming week will witness a two-day closure for Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti and Good Friday.
The trading in derivatives, equities, SLBs, currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives will be suspended during these two days next week. The market participants were advised to plan their trading activities accordingly to avoid any inconvenience.
Investors and traders should take note of the upcoming trading holidays throughout the year. Notably, October 21, 2025, will be a trading holiday for Diwali Laxmi Pujan, with Muhurat Trading scheduled for that day. The exchanges will release the timings for Muhurat Trading in a circular during October.
Market holidays are crucial for traders and investors to plan their investment strategies effectively. The stock exchanges operate throughout the week, except on declared holidays and weekends. Understanding the holiday calendar is essential for market participants to avoid any trading disruptions.

Additionally, the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also observe market holidays this month. On April 18, Good Friday, both sessions of the MCX will remain closed. However, on April 14, the exchange will have a morning session closure and resume trading in the evening.
Market participants are advised to stay updated with the holiday schedules of both the stock exchanges and commodity markets to make informed decisions. Being aware of these closures helps in managing trading activities efficiently and mitigating any potential risks associated with market disruptions.
Overall, understanding and planning around market holidays are essential aspects of navigating the financial markets successfully. By staying informed and prepared for these scheduled closures, traders and investors can optimize their trading strategies and ensure smooth operations in the market.
