The 2024 Australia-Korea Media Exchange program has recently revealed the six Australian journalists chosen to participate in this cultural and professional initiative. Alexander Blair from News.com.au, Bridget Carter from The Australian, Nadia Daly from ABC, Elouise Fowler and Michael Read from AFR, Tobias Loftus from ABC Regional, and James Gorman from the Walkley Foundation are set to embark on a 10-day journey to the Republic of Korea (ROK) in June.
This exchange, facilitated by the Australia-Korea Foundation (AKF), the Korea Press Foundation (KPF), and the Walkley Foundation, aims to strengthen the ties between Australia and the ROK. It provides a platform for journalists to delve into key areas such as economics, trade, and security through interactions with industry experts and stakeholders in both countries.
The significance of this program is underscored by its continuity, with a similar delegation having visited South Korea in the previous year. The 2023 cohort included journalists like Clare Armstrong, Edward Boyd, Sarah Dingle, Tansy Harcourt, Peter Ker, and Rachel Pupazzoni. Notably, the Walkley Foundation secured a substantial grant of $120,000 from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2022 to support these valuable exchanges.
In reciprocation, South Korean journalists will soon visit various Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth, under the guidance of the Walkley Foundation. During their time in Australia, they will engage with local business and government representatives, cultural experts, and media professionals, with a specific focus on exploring advancements in science and technology.
This ongoing media exchange serves as a testament to the enduring partnership between Australia and the Republic of Korea, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration in crucial areas of interest. It not only enriches the journalistic capabilities of the participants but also contributes to the broader landscape of international relations and cross-cultural communication.
